Why Should You Take a Path of Solopreneurship?
The best day to take control of your future is today.
When I got laid off from my job, it was a real wake up call.
I was making a six-figure income, all my bills were paid, I had plenty of expendable income and I had become complacent, thinking that life would always be that way.
Needless to say, I was wrong. When the massive wave of layoffs continued into early 2023, I was a victim.
I didn’t have a plan, the job market I was in had catered out, so I had to take jobs like managing a pizzeria and back breaking factory work.
I finally found a job making a decent wage as a retail store manager, but it was roughly half of what I was making before and it made me realize I was going to have to make my own luck.
The job market today is hard
I’ve seen so many posts on social media about people looking for jobs and having no luck, no matter their education or background.
I personally sent out over 1,500 applications to jobs only to be rejected or ignored outright.
Inflation is killing anyone not making at least $100K a year, and things are just getting worse.
There are no guarantees that work will be available either.
Even if you do get a job, the market is so saturated at this time that you are expendable.
One slip up, or one contract falling through, and you are now a statistic.
It’s almost impossible to have peace of mind if you’re constantly worried about whether you’re going to be able to pay rent, bills, or even afford food.
I decided to do something about it, and so can you.
All of this madness made me determined to do something about my own future.
I decided I could no longer leave it in the hands of corporations who like to tout that all their employees are “family” until the pizza parties stop and they send you a termination notice.
I am passionate about writing, whether it’s articles like this, technical writing, or something in the realm of fiction.
I’ve studied it for years, even getting a degree in creative writing.
I felt this was the best way to utilize both that passion and all the education I’ve pursued.
With that in mind…
Here’s what I’m working on currently to make this all a reality.
- I’m writing here on Medium, of course, and this serves as my main blogging outlet. You should give me a follow. I love talking with anyone who comments on stories.
- I started a newsletter, Niche of One, which I use to help people learn to write, motivate them to start a business based on their passions, and share the work of others. It’s a curated mini-newsletter, so readers find it easy to digest when they’re on the go.
- I’m also currently working on three new eBooks at this time that I plan to sell in my Gumroad store and on Amazon KDP. One of my main goals is to get evergreen products out in the wild that will continue to produce for me over the years.
- I’m also in the development stages on some serialized fiction tales I will work on over the course of this next year. I will offer those on a subscription based status.
- I will begin offering freelance services in several areas I have some expertise in, as well, in the niches of logo creation, website design, and editing.
My plan is to diversify my writing portfolio based on all my years of previous experience to help enrich the lives of my clients and make their success much easier to achieve.
I’m no longer satisfied with simply getting a paycheck.
I’m creating my destiny one step at a time.
Are you ready to take control of your future?
If you’re tired of the uncertainty of corporate interest in you future, then it’s time to take the first step on your road to independence.
There is no better time than right now to begin this journey. All it takes to start is to begin the work.
It won’t be easy, no matter what some “guru” might tell you, but it will be worth it.
