How I’m Building My Empire
I’m succeeding where others fail, and you can succeed, too.
I have a “never say die” attitude.
That’s probably because I’ve been in some bad situations that could’ve gone a lot worse, but I’ve always been able to think my way out of them.
When I was in Afghanistan or Iraq, it was life-threatening situations that usually involved coming up with innovative tactics to outsmart and thwart an enemy’s objective while not getting dead.
I would not recommend going through those types of situations to gain valuable experience, by the way. At least not if you can help it.
In the corporate world, as a project coordinator or manager, it was about implementing effective process change to meet deadlines under budget if at all possible.
Heck, even working as a retail store manager in an inner city, where the crime is rampant, the customers are hostile, and the corporation you work for doesn’t impart any decent resources or money for you time, I’ve managed to keep the attitude and excel. I took their underperforming, last place store and made them a quarter of a million dollars in the first quarter, landing it firmly in first place for an entire region.
The reason I succeed has nothing to do with what you may think.
It’s not because I have all that experience. I did well even when I didn’t have it.
It’s not because of the tricks I’ve learned. Yes, it helped, but it wasn’t the determining factor.
It’s not because I’m good looking or smarter than anyone else. If those were the deciding points, I’m afraid I’d probably come in somewhere in the fair to middlin’ category.
Do you want to know how I succeed?
I do not quit.
I am on a mission to succeed with my writing, and to help others succeed.
I have a clear objective.
I have a clear focus.
And I will not stop climbing until I reach the top of the mountain.
And when I get to the top of the mountain? When I’ve literally peaked?
I will learn to fly.
How do I do this? And more importantly, how can you do it, too?
You show up.
You do the work.
You refuse to be complacent.
You hold yourself accountable.
You learn from failure.
You get knocked down…
BUT YOU GET BACK UP.
You will always face adversity, no matter what path you take.
You take that adversity — whether it be from negative comments, things not going the way you planned, or any other tripping hazard you come across — and turn it to your advantage.
You think outside the box.
You innovate.
You lead from the front.
Three months ago, I was at a low-point.
I was having a hard time finding work. I wasn’t fulfilled creatively. I barely felt human because I was just existing.
Then I started turning things around with my writing.
Because writing isn’t just scribbling words on paper to me, or click-clacking away on a keyboard to express my thoughts.
It’s my religion.
It’s the philosophy that drives me.
Words shape the very universe we live in by giving it meaning.
And I am very good with words.
So, I stopped feeling sorry for myself and I started to put in the work.
As of this writing:
- I went from 0 newsletter subscribers to over 300.
- My open rates went from 0% to 50%, with a click ratio of 10%.
- I’ve gained almost 400 followers here on Medium and made a few hundred dollars.
- I’ve written two short books.
- I’ve made over 173 sales in my store.
I networked, I engaged, I studied, I implemented, I improved the process…
I’m taking it to another level, and I’m holding my hand out to take you, too.
You may be sitting there thinking you can’t do this.
Pardon my language, but fuck that noise.
I BELIEVE IN YOU.
Now, you just have to believe in yourself.
Today is the day things change.
Today is the day you take charge of your destiny.
Today is the day you climb mountains.
