How I took my best-performing article and made an eBook

From Bytes to Books

Have you ever wondered how you can take your best performing articles and turn them into something more?

I did just that by taking my article Byte-Sized Brilliance: Why Short-Form Writing Reigns  and turning into an eBook, Byte-Sized Brilliance: From Bytes to Books.

I took a pre-validated, successful story and turned it into an evergreen money maker, and here’s how you can do it, too.

Some pieces you write resonate more profoundly with your audience.

They tend to stand out as beacons of engagement and insight, hitting that sweet spot that really drives engagement and keeps people coming back for more.

Byte-Sized Brilliance did just that, so when a 7-day eBook challenge popped up in the Newsletter Alchemy writing group, I decided to see how I could expand on that article.

I did this not only to capitalize on the article’s content, but also challenge myself to expand my short-form content into a more in-depth, long-form piece of writing.

This transition was both a challenge and a revelation, offering valuable lessons along the way.

Elevating your content into marketable products.

Transforming my article into an eBook involved a lot more than just expanding the word count.

I had to enrich the content to provide more depth, context, and value to any potential reader.

Here’s what I learned along the way:

  • Understanding the Audience: The article’s success was a clear indicator of it’s resonance with my audience. The eBook version needed to maintain this connection while offering new insights and value.
  • Content Expansion: I dove deeper into the subject matter, incorporating additional research to enrich the narrative and provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
  • Editing Strategy: The transition from article to paid eBook warranted a higher standard of quality. I used AI, specifically the Mr. Editor custom ChatGPT I made, to help suggest edits I could make to improve the readability and catch any mistakes I made.
  • Design and Formatting: An eBook requires attention to design and formatting to enhance readability and engagement. Investing the time into creating a professional design made the eBook visually appealing and easy to navigate.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Leveraging the article’s existing popularity, I plan to use a sequence in ConvertKit to promote this to my newsletter subscribers. In addition, I will set up a landing page to entice people on social media to give it a try as well. I also plan to hype up the fact that people can make money helping me sell it through my Gumroad affiliate program, earning 50% for every sale that comes through one of their links.

This has been an immensely rewarding experience.

Not only did it allow me to expand on a topic I enjoyed writing about, offering me an opportunity to connect with my audience on a deeper level, but also it was a challenge that exercised my ability as a writer.

This experience underscored the importance to me of the lessons I try to share with others to never underestimate the potential of your content to evolve and reach greater heights.

So, remember:

  • Analyze your best-performing content for eBook potential.
  • Expand and enrich the content to offer additional value.
  • Invest time in editing and design to ensure great quality.
  • Develop a strategic marketing plan to promote your eBook.
  • Embrace the learning curve and celebrate every milestone along the way.

If you’re sitting on a successful article, consider the possibility of turning it into something more.

You’ll find it’s a testament to the power of content evolution and the endless possibilities that await when you dare to challenge and expand your creative boundaries.
