Be water, my friend.

What can Bruce Lee teach you about minimalist creation? A lot.

Be water, my friend.

I love the philosophy of Bruce Lee.

It’s straightforward and to the point, wasting no words.

Right up my alley.

This is my favorite quote:

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
― Bruce Lee

Your path of minimalist creation, especially in the beginning, will often give you challenges that will either make you or break you.

Bruce Lee’s philosophy, “Be like water,” offers a profound foundation for navigating the complexities of creative endeavors in a simplified way, demonstrating your grace and resilience.

The idea of being formless and adaptable like water is a resonant metaphor for creators.

It underscores the necessity of flexibility and adaptability in the creative process.

In minimalist content creation, where simplicity and clarity are the name of the game, being like water means molding your efforts to the contours of your goals, your audience needs, and facing criticism without losing your essence.

The audience will dictate what they want… and you must listen.

Just as the water adjust to become the shape of its container, a minimalist creator must adapt their strategies based on the feedback and response from their audience.

This may mean pivoting content types, adjusting designs, or even rethinking your marketing strategy to better align with what resonates with your audience.

Flexibility of this type has been shown to lead to greater satisfaction and success.

Being open to change allows you to innovate continuously.

This adaptability not only ensures the relevance of your content but also keeps you emotionally balanced.

By not resisting change, you reduce stress and enhance your capacity to produce creatively.

The need to overcome obstacles, and face negative criticism, will happen.

This is where the water-like approach comes in handy.

You may find that you need to explore a new niche, employ a different content platform, or find someone that just doesn’t like what you’re doing and has decided to be obsessively vocal about it.

The best way to approach this is not head-on but from the side, much like water seeping through the cracks.

The fluidity of this problem-solving perspective can lead to unexpected breakthroughs and allow you to let the negativity wash off you like a summer rain, leaving you with a deep sense of accomplishment and renewed passion.

“Be water, my friend” is a powerful metaphor for resilience in the face of adversity.

As a creator, this philosophy is a reminder to embrace the ebbs and flows of the process, always seeking the path that allows you to flow forward no matter the challenges.

Thus, your creativity adapts, transforms, and expresses itself authentically, as versatile and impactful as water itself.

I can think of no better message to give you than this on my 100th post:

BE WATER, MY FRIEND.
