4 Reasons to Kill Your Social Media
I removed most social media from my life… and became productive.
I 100% believe digital minimalism is a must for a focused creator path.
This philosophical branch of minimalism emphasizes intentional and thoughtful engagement with digital tools that support your values and life goals.
The term was coined by Cal Newport in his book, “Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World.”
The concept is all about maximizing the benefits of the technology you use while minimizing the negative impacts.
Having educated you a little on digital minimalism I have to ask… how many different social media platforms are you trying to operate on?
If the answer is more than 3, you’re spreading your focus too thin and it’s going to result in poor gains.
Additionally, you’re probably adding some undue stress on your creative life because you’re trying to keep up with all of them.
Just stop.
Kill your social media.
Focus on those that produce the best results.
Here’s how it’ll help you.
1. Clutter Reduction
It simplifies and directs your creative efforts.
No longer will you have to worry about logging into multiple sites daily, figuring out multiple algorithmic schemes for posting, or dealing with multiple detractors that will inevitably pop up.
That stress will simply no longer be there.
Just by ridding yourself of the clutter.
2. Intentional Usage
This allows you to focus on the platforms that are working well for you, allowing you to make deliberate, meaningful choices.
This will help you accomplish your goals that much faster.
It will also free up your time and detract less from your everyday life.
Much less stress.
3. Tech-Free Time
Those time savings can be put back into your social life, your family life, or simply reading a book.
Instead of pouring over multiple social accounts, wouldn’t it be nicer and healthier to take a walk and enjoy the world in which you live?
You never know what you might find out there. My guess is a few stories are waiting to find you.
4. Quality Over Quantity
It’s going to allow you to prioritize your activities to provide greater value.
Instead of all that doom scrolling, you can ideate more content, focus on marketing that will help you grow, or even better, spend time with a loved one.
When you’re old, your biggest regret won’t be how much you missed out on by not being on every social platform.
Your regret will be all about the little moments you missed out on because you were too busy listening to the latest guru tell you lies.
This is the best strategic move you can make as a minimalist content creator.
It aligns perfectly with the principle of doing more with less and focusing intensely on what truly adds value to your life and the life of your audience.
Give it a shot.
I bet you start looking for other ways to minimize the impact of technology in your life once you see the results.
