Johnny Deuce & The Hot Rods
Johnny Deuce and the Hot Rods come on like a sock hop in a nuclear-age diner, all greased hair and cuffed jeans and that swing-back-in-time shine. They do covers, Smells Like Teen Spirit and The CIA Took My Baby Away among them, and they do originals, and one of those originals is Join the Cult, a two-minute thing so catchy it became station policy. GZS 197.7 airs Join the Cult once every hour, on the hour, by rule, and nobody on staff remembers writing the rule down, only that it is followed. Johnny himself is all smile and pomade and good manners in interviews. He never ages between sessions, and the wonderful world he keeps inviting everybody back to does not appear on any map we own. He says we have been missing it. He says it like it is good news.
Writes Join the Cult. Does not age between sessions.
Hot Rods rhythm section. Always one count too eager.
